Our campus partner Sarah Lynch, resident district manager for Chartwells Dining Services, recently received the Culture Pillar Award at the Chartwells Summer Summit in Chicago. This award is given to those who exemplify Chartwells’ Humble, Hungry and Smart Philosophy.

Ronnie Bell, Facilities Management mechanical trades technician, Lock Shop; and Helena Connors, Parking and Transportation Services, assistant director; represented the UNC Charlotte Staff Council as delegates at the UNC System Staff Assembly general meeting. This year’s meeting was hosted July 23-24 on the campus of Appalachian State University.

David E. Smith, Facilities Operations zone 5 and elevator supervisor, was installed into the 2019-2020 APPA Board of Directors as a junior representative for the Southeastern Region at the APPA conference held in Denver, CO July 15-17. He served as SRAPPA president for 2017-18.

Joyce Veit, support services associate in Mail and Package Services, is retiring on Aug. 30 after 21 years of service.

Dorothy “Dot” Munson, lead recycling technician, is retiring Aug. 31, after almost 30 years of service. A retirement celebration was held in her honor on July 12.

Seven staff members in Business Affairs received certificates of completion from the College Business Management Institute (CBMI) on Aug. 1. They were: Pam Duff, Michelle Hill, NiCole Lynch, Teri Miller, Charleata Neal, Steve Terry and Melanie Witherspoon. Co-sponsored by SACUBO and the University of Kentucky, CBMI is designed to provide participants with an overview of current issues and procedures applicable to institutions of higher education, large and small, public and private. Individuals participate in up to 32 hours of instruction each summer for three years to earn a certificate of completion.

Facilities Management Motor Fleet, for the fifth year, has been recognized among the top 50 Green Fleets in North America. This year’s ranking of 20 is the fourth time UNC Charlotte has ranked in the top twenties. In addition to this honor, UNC Charlotte was recognized as a 2019 Smart Fleet Champion. This designation, awarded on Aug. 6, was in recognition of “demonstrating excellence in fleet efficiency, fuel diversity, and conservation by reducing petroleum fuel use.”

On behalf of Business Affairs, we would like to thank Nic Vaughn for his service. Vaughn works in the Parking and Transportation Services Communications Center. Currently, he is completing his rotation at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, CA and preparing to be deployed to the Middle East for approximately 12 months. Vaughn has served in the Army National Guard since 2015 and was previously called up for emergency service in response to the recent Hurricane Florence relief.
