Alvarez earns national auxiliary services certification

Ana Alvarez, director of auxiliary services at UNC Charlotte, has earned the designation of certified auxiliary services professional (CASP) through the National Association of College Auxiliary Services (NACAS).

CASP is a four-year certification that demonstrates recipients have met a high standard of excellence, as defined by industry experts. Established in 2009, CASP affirms the recipient’s expertise in management, leadership, marketing, student development and operations.

“Congratulations to Ana for this impressive achievement,” said Kelsey Harmon Finn, CEO of NACAS. “CASP is the premiere designation for higher education auxiliary and ancillary services. It demonstrates the recipients have the skills necessary to be successful in our industry, meeting an advanced standard of expertise.”

Alvarez provides administrative oversight and operational management for the University’s food services, bookstore, licensing, vending and pouring rights, reprographics and mail and package services.

“Ana’s commitment to developing her staff and continuing her own personal development is exemplary,” said Keith Wassum, associate vice chancellor for business services. “She is the first person at UNC Charlotte to earn this certification. Her achievement signals that she and her staff are equipped to provide leadership to meet the many challenges of providing campus services for our growing University.”

Alvarez joined UNC Charlotte in 2014. She previously worked for 10 years in auxiliary services at the University of Miami, four of those as director of the department.

She holds a master’s degree in accounting and taxation from Florida International University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Troy State University.
