SMITH APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF UNIVERSITY BUDGETS AND FINANCIAL PLANNING

Kenneth (Ken) Smith is the new director of university budgets and financial planning. He assumed this role Aug. 1.

As the University’s budget director, Smith will lead the budgeting processes for the General Fund and auxiliary and student fee operating budgets. He will be responsible for financial planning and analysis for capital projects and providing legislative, policy and management guidance for University leaders. He will report to Anne Brown, associate vice chancellor for finance.

“Ken’s knowledge of budgeting, particularly in the context of North Carolina and the UNC System, will be truly invaluable,” said Brown. “His collaborative spirit will make him an excellent addition to our Financial Services team, and his positive impact will reach across our campus. We are fortunate to have him back at UNC Charlotte.”

Since 2015, Smith served as the university budget director at Appalachian State University. Previously, he was UNC Charlotte’s associate budget director for eight years and worked in the banking industry both during and after college. Smith earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Wake Forest University and Bachelor of Science in Accounting from UNC Charlotte.

“It’s thrilling for me to be back and to rejoin my Niner Nation family,” said Smith. “I’m excited about all the opportunities that are in store for this great University, and I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues as we strive to fulfill the mission and values of UNC Charlotte.”
